“On September 24, 2011 people everywhere will be getting involved in local 350 Moving Planet events. What is 350 you may ask? Well, 350 is the number of parts per million (ppm) of atmospheric carbon that is safe for our planet. Right now we are at 392 ppm in our atmosphere and it increases every year by 2%. If this information shocks you and you want to take action and help bring our carbon levels down, you can join in the local 350 Moving Planet event hosted at the Common Ground Fair from 3:30 to 4:30pm this Saturday.
One hour– that’s all it takes for you to help bring awareness about 350 and make a difference. We need as many people as we can get, so tell your friends, your family, and post it on your Facebook. Help us get the word out and make this event really spectacular.
If you are really excited about this and want an even bigger role in the 350 event, please join us this Thursday at the student center from 5-6 for “the rally before the rally” and we will train you to become a volunteer leader. You can also help us make banners and T-shirts for this momentous event and we’ll all enjoy some pizza as we get pumped for this Saturday.
Now I saved the best for last. John Zavodny has come up with an amazing and creative way for us to not only support 350 awareness but also show off what Unity has to offer. When you join us in the commons area of the fair you will get to be a part of a giant human 350. You will start off moving through the 3 where you will pick up locally grown pumpkins and raise them up to the sky as you traverse your way through the 5 and then the 0. Everyone walking through shares a common goal, and they know something needs to change and they are going to show how Unity, Maine makes a difference. United as one school, as one community and as one people, we will all be a part of a great event that can only improve if more people join our cause.
And just in case a giant human art project that correlates with amazing events all over the world is not enough to get you out here, then maybe knowing that all the locally grown pumpkins will be donated to the local food pantry will have you ready to go on September 24.
If you want to make a difference and be a part of a massive experience that you will not forget for the rest of your life, then join us at the Common Ground Fair and help us let the world know what 350 Moving Planet is all about.”
