Mitch and I arrived in Denver yesterday for two back-to-back sustainability conferences this week. We’re joined by more than 2000 higher education sustainability folks at the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Conference. Mitch sits on the Board for AASHE, will moderate one of the keynote events, and will present on his Nine Elements of a Sustainable Campus. Today, I attended a couple of great workshops on behavior change campaigns for Sustainability Officers and on AASHE’s STARS program. You can keep up with the AASHE Conference at their blog.
Later in the week, we’ll join hundreds of campus executives at the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) Climate Leadership Summit. Mitch is Co-Chair of the ACUPCC Steering Committee and will be facilitating some of the sessions during the Summit.
Together, these two organizations are setting the agenda for sustainability in higher education; and they’re doing so in response to the needs and input from the higher ed. sustainability community. The folks back home may wish to know that our small, rural, environmental college has a prominent role to play in advancing sustainability education across the country (and beyond). This week we gladly fill that role with our colleagues in Denver.
