A Greasy Situation on Campus

Know what this is?

This is the grease collection container connected to the Student Center. There is another one of these green metal bins behind the dining hall on campus. Every time you get some fries, or a nice greasy hamburger at the Student Center or in the dining hall, the waste grease goes in these holders and then someone from Maine Standard Bio-fuels comes and gets it! This UVO (used vegetable oil, for those of us unfamiliar with bio-fuel lingo) is recycled at their Maine based facility and not only returned as bio-fuel, this cooking waste is used to heat and power their facility!

This super-sustainable dining services initiative marks one more aspect of Unity College‘s continued efforts to live up to our name of “America’s Environmental College”
