Unity College’s Center for Environmental Arts and Humanities and WERU-FM partnered to host the first ever Maine Grassroots Media Conference last weekend. The conference drew over a hundred participants for a wide range of workshops, presentations, and activities intended to “strengthen the networks of grassroots media to support the sharing of diverse, underrepresented perspectives and cultures.” This aim is precisely why such an event is hosted at Unity College. Though the sustainability challenges we face are often global in nature, they manifest locally. It’s the local, grassroots media, that are equipping active citizens to engage local, grassroots responses to these challenges.
