Apples are ripe in our campus orchard. This message to campus from Doug Fox, Director of Unity’s Center for Sustainability & Global Change, and campus orchard master.
Students, Staff, Faculty, Administrators,
The apples down by the cottages and TerraHaus are not reserved for any particular use. Please go ahead and pick freely. I picked a couple bags this weekend and made some apple crisp and applesauce this weekend. Yum!
With many of our varieties, the best way to pick is to lift rather than pull. This leaves the fruiting spur intact so it will produce next year.
By the way, the orchard was planted on Earth Day, 1996.
Fall comes early in Unity, but we love it for all the right reasons.
